Do I need prior experience?

No prior experience is necessary for our introductory courses and recreational programs. For advanced instruction or professional training, prerequisites are listed in each course description.

What should I bring?

We provide all specialized climbing gear. Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring water and snacks. Additional requirements are listed by program.

Is it safe?

Safety is our top priority. All programs are led by certified instructors who follow industry best practices and use professional-grade equipment.

Are your courses worth the investment?

Absolutely. Our courses are designed to deliver practical skills and lasting value. In fact, we stand behind them with a simple promise: if you don’t feel you gained new knowledge or skills, we’ll refund your tuition in full.

How long are the programs?

Program lengths vary. Introductory experiences last about 2 hours, while multi-day courses and overnight adventures are also available.

Can I book a private or group session?

Absolutely. We offer customized sessions for individuals, families, schools, and organizations. Private instruction is available upon request.

Where do programs take place?

Our programs run in St. Louis and the surrounding Midwest region. Locations are selected for safety, accessibility, and a memorable outdoor experience.

Sleep on the side of a cliff overlooking the Big River and rolling farmland!

Introducing a bold new overnight adventure from Vertical Voyages. For the first time ever, you can experience what big wall climbers do—spending the night high off the ground on a vertical cliff face. Our Portaledge Campout at Robinson Bluff offers stunning views of the Big River and surrounding farmland, all from the comfort of a portaledge.

Whether you’re a climber, an adventurous couple, or simply looking for a once-in-a-lifetime way to connect with nature—this brand-new experience gives you the thrill of vertical camping with the full support of our professional guides.


Your Night on the Wall

After a guided climb to your ledge, you’ll settle in with a safety briefing, watch the sunset over the river valley, and sleep under the stars. Your portaledge is the same kind used by elite climbers on multi-day ascents—flat, secure, and surprisingly comfortable.

  • Professionally rigged portaledge on the cliff face
  • All climbing and safety gear (ropes, harnesses, helmets)
  • On-site bathroom access
  • Expert guide support throughout
  • Hot breakfast served in the morning.

What to Bring

  • Sleeping bag, pad, pillow
  • Weather-appropriate clothing and headlamp
  • Sack lunches and camp  dinner.
  • Personal essentials: toiletries, bug spray, sunscreen, medications
  • Camera or smartphone for unforgettable photos

  • Location: Robinson Bluff, overlooking the Big River
  • Duration: 1 overnight + morning reflection and breakfast
  • Participants should be comfortable with heights and in good physical condition.
  • Bathroom available onsite.
