Do I need prior experience?

No prior experience is necessary for our introductory courses and recreational programs. For advanced instruction or professional training, prerequisites are listed in each course description.

What should I bring?

We provide all specialized climbing gear. Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring water and snacks. Additional requirements are listed by program.

Is it safe?

Safety is our top priority. All programs are led by certified instructors who follow industry best practices and use professional-grade equipment.

Are your courses worth the investment?

Absolutely. Our courses are designed to deliver practical skills and lasting value. In fact, we stand behind them with a simple promise: if you don’t feel you gained new knowledge or skills, we’ll refund your tuition in full.

How long are the programs?

Program lengths vary. Introductory experiences last about 2 hours, while multi-day courses and overnight adventures are also available.

Can I book a private or group session?

Absolutely. We offer customized sessions for individuals, families, schools, and organizations. Private instruction is available upon request.

Where do programs take place?

Our programs run in St. Louis and the surrounding Midwest region. Locations are selected for safety, accessibility, and a memorable outdoor experience.

How do I sign up?

Guided Climbing

No experience required.

Step into the vertical world with Vertical Voyages and experience the thrill of outdoor rock climbing in some of the Midwest’s most stunning natural areas. Whether you’re brand new to climbing or looking to explore beyond the gym, our Half-Day and Full-Day guided outings are designed for individuals, families, and small groups eager to climb real rock—with expert instruction and all technical gear included.

All programs are led by AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructors, ensuring high-quality instruction in climbing movement, belaying, and risk management.


Half-Day Rock Climbing and Rappelling

3.5 hours | Starts at 9:00 AM

Our half-day option is a focused introduction to outdoor climbing. You’ll have time to climb several routes and, if you choose, try rappelling from the cliff edge. We recommend selecting either climbing or rappelling for the best use of the time.

  • All gear provided: climbing shoes, harness, and helmet
  • Guided by AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructors
  • No prior experience required
  • Great for individuals, families, and small groups
  • Ages 8 and up
  • Offered at select climbing areas near St. Louis

Full-Day Rock Climbing and Rappelling

6–7 hours | Starts at 9:00 AM

Spend a full day on the rock with time to explore a variety of routes and techniques. This extended session includes the opportunity to experience rappelling, either as part of your flow or whenever it best fits into the day. You’ll gain more time on the wall, personalized coaching, and a deeper connection to the outdoor climbing experience.

We guide at several premier climbing areas in Illinois and Missouri:

Giant City State Park (Makanda, IL)
Towering sandstone bluffs and well-featured routes in the Shawnee National Forest.
Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes from STL Airport

Robinson Bluff Climbing Area (Cadet, MO)
Privately managed sport climbing destination with a wide range of routes and sunny exposures.
Approx. 1 hour 15 minutes from STL Airport
Stay on-site! Rent the VV cabin for $100 per night.

Classic limestone cliffs with Mississippi River views—great for climbing and hiking combos.

Ferne Clyffe State Park (Goreville, IL)
Secluded sandstone walls and seasonal waterfalls surrounded by forested trails.
Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes from STL Airport
